I suppose that the Florence Museums are one of the main attractions along with the many interesting basilicas, palaces, churches, intricately decorated squares and statues, bridges, forts, fountains and galleries. If you are to enjoy a little of each, then it would be recommendable to choose the most adequate accommodation in the city centre and to be well equipped with a city map, and above all the timetables and prices for each of these attractions. If you can read ahead and even find a local guide to take you around, you will definitely enjoy the Florence Museums much more.
Loviness at all Florence Museums
I suppose that everyone starts out at the Piazza del Duomo, admiring the leaning brown tiled dome. They visit the cathedral and then onto the Museum of the Opera where the most treasured sculptures of the city are kept. You can find tools that Brunelleschi used to make the dome, the Pieta of Michaelangelo which he had done for his own tomb, and impressive reliefs of Donatello.
In the Palace of Bargello built in 1254, you can find the Museum of Bargello which houses the most complete collection of Renaissance Tuscany sculptures of all Italy. Here too you can feast your eyes on the drunk ‘ Baco’ by Michaelangelo and ‘David’ by Donatello.
The Uffizi Palace, designed and built by Vasri in the 16th century, is as if it were a museum because it has the most important private collection of Florentine and Italian art. Just a little tip – due to the immense amount of tourist that visit the palace daily, it would be a good idea to reserve your tickets before hand at Firenze Musei.
In the Piazza della SS Annunziata is where the Archaelogical Museum is found. There is a great variety of statues, bronze figures and marble pieces going from the Egyptians to Greeks and Romans, offering an alternative trip through time to learn history with the antiques from the Medicis collection.
The Pitti Palace should be visited entirely, because other than being a palace, it also has a Porcelain Museum, Silver Museum and modern Art and Costume Museum, all very worth the time seeing.
I have been to many cities such as Venice and Rome and others all over the world, but I have never seen a city so chocked full of interesting buildings and Museums as Florence is.
